Request for Cadet Services

The Fairfield Police Cadets can be utilized at community functions all throughout the year. If you request the cadets for security, traffic control, or any other function please email: [email protected]

Private Property Traffic Direction: Cadets have the capability of directing traffic and parking cars on private property such as parking lots and open fields. We are often utilized at large scale town events, such as Fairfield's Independence Day Fireworks, the McKinley Carnival, the Easton Carnival and the Berlin Fair.

Road Races: The Fairfield Police Cadets have a long tradition of assisting in road races throughout the town of Fairfield, notably the Sunset 5k, Fairfield Half Marathon, and the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot. Cadets may be stationed along the race route to keep traffic closed. Cadets may only be stationed in pairs at locations where there is a barricade or cones to assist in blocking traffics. They also act lookouts, and are equipped with radios to report any medical emergencies that may take place along the route and can render immediate aid.

If the cadets are requested for a road race, it should also be done in addition to hiring of regular police officers through the department. The use of the Police Cadets does not fulfill any permit or town requirements to have officers present for large events. The officers that supervise the cadets (Police Cadet Advisors) will also not count, as their primary function will be to monitor the police cadets and will not be stationed to direct traffic. You will not have to pay an extra rate for the Police Cadet Advisors present with the cadets as they are volunteering their time.

If cadets are requested for a road race outside of Fairfield, we must get approval from the local police department to ensure we are not violating their department's policy on outside volunteers.

Please note that cadets will not be stationed on public roadways where they may have to direct high volumes of traffic. Cadets are not permitted to act as officers in the roadway and provide traffic direction. Cadets are not permitted to act as police officers or special police officers by issuing enforcement action against pedestrians or drivers.

Public Safety Presence: Cadets can be used as a public safety presence for large events, and enhance community relations with event attendees and the youth members. A majority of the cadets are CPR and First AID certified and will assist in medical emergencies until a more qualified responder arrives. Cadets are also trained to respond when there is a missing person at large scale events, and have a protocol which has been successfully used countless times over the years.

Safety Notice: Cadets must be supervised by a Fairfield Police Officer who is certified as a Cadet Advisor. Cadets will take orders from the designated police officer, who may make adjustments to cadets assignments for safety reasons. There are youth ranking members of the cadet program, who may also make adjustments for safety. Cadets are required to get breaks every hour to ensure they are able to get food and rest.

Cost: For town sponsored events where the Fairfield Police Department is being utilized, there is no cost as the Fairfield Police Cadets can be used in conjunction with the PD. For private events and activities, we request a donation of be made to our non-profit so we can provide safety equipment and food to our cadets during these types of events. For larger scale events where food is provided, we ask that our cadets be provided meal vouchers to reward them for their hard work!
